LiepU Institute of Educational Sciences (IES) started its work in 2008. The IES’s aim is scientific and research activities in the field of educational sciences. The main directions are to provide educational and scientific qualifications improvement in the field of education; the organizational work of the doctoral programme “Pedagogy” to promote educational research results in the society.
It focuses on seven research areas:

• Pre-school pedagogy
• Schools of Pedagogy
• Higher Education in Pedagogy
• Adult Pedagogy
• Industrial Pedagogy
• History of Pedagogy
In compliance with different trends in education, IES supervises three research centres:
• Alternative Education Centre
• Sociological Research Centre
• Special Education Laboratory
