Vice rector for studies gives lectures in Santo Domingo Institute of Technology

Liepaja University vice rector for studies Mara Zeltina (Māra Zeltiņa) spent two weeks at Santodomingo Institute of Technology (INTEC), in the capital city Santodomingo of the Dominican Republic.

INTEC is a private university and one of the strongest technology universities in the Dominican Republic, specializing in sustainable environment development and industrial engineering. During one week Mara Zeltina gave lectures on the topic "Use of sustainable development indicator system for the progress assessment according to the millenium goals" for bachelor, master and doctoral level students of environmental science study programmes.

Mara Zeltina shares her impressions: “The topics of the lectures chosen in the problem context of the project on the assessment of sustainable development were related to the sustainability of cities and the involvement of target groups in its promotion, as well as mitigation and adaptation of climate change by using the example of Latvia. The lectures were held in a hybrid form, in the same manner as in our university. Students from various programmes and study levels in the fields of environment and engineering participated. Students were interested, open to discussions that was somehow limited by the language barrier, as in the Dominican Republic basically Spanish is the mainly used language. "Of course, the angle of view was influenced by Ukraine's background and disturbing news on the phone.”

On the visit the vice-rector for studies went with the senior specialist for International Relations department Sintija Leigute who was on the staff training mobility strengthening the international cooperation within this Erasmus+ project (No.2019-1-LV01-KA107-060331).

LiepU will also host three staff from INTEC in this academic spring semester of 2021/2022 in May who will be visiting LiepU on the teaching and staff training mobilities in environmental science field under the currently implemented Erasmus+ project.
