Liepaja University vice-rector for studies Māra Zeltiņa and International Coordinator of International Relations Department Sintija Leigute has went on the visit to Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC) in the capital city of Dominican Republic - Santo Domingo under the Erasmus+ exchange programme project KA107.

Māra Zeltiņa will be giving the classes on the teaching mobility in environmental science field about the topic "Use of sustainable development indicator system for the progress assessment according to the millenium goals", whereas Sintija Leigute will be discovering the study opportunities offered by INTEC, their study equipment, as well as will reveal new possibilities for cooperation under Erasmus+ programme projects and discuss the planned project activities under the existing Erasmus+ project.

On the 1st day LiepU representatives had a campus tour around six different laboratories such as sustainable environment, prototyping, mechatronics, machine learning labs, etc., had a meeting with the researchers of the environmental science field to speak about their current research topics, including the Ocean Clean-up programme and LiepU research directions in environmental science. They also had a meeting with the International Mobility Office director Maria Luisa Ferrand and Erasmus+ coordinator Mayelisa Hidalgo. During the visit is planned to have a meeting with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to discover their environmental problems and solutions in Santo Domingo region by comparing with Liepaja city.

INTEC is a private university which is one of the strongest technology universities in Dominican Republic specializing in sustainable environment (circular economy) and industrial engineering.

Our vice-rector for studies admits that the 1st introductory visit was vigorously planned and gave good insights about the study process, especially in environmental and smart technologies field. Although INTEC is located far away from LiepU, we have similar research directions by using smart technologies and sustainable development principles.

LiepU will also host three staff from INTEC in this academic spring semester of 2021/2022 who will be arriving on the teaching and staff training mobilities under the currently implemented Erasmus+ project (No.2019-1-LV01-KA107-060331).
