LiepU authorities visited Vytautas Magnus University

Just few days before the announcement of the national “lockdown” Liepaja University Rector Dace Markus, Vice Rector for Science Ieva Ozola and Dean of Faculty of Pedagogy and Social work Linda Pavitola visited Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Meetings, presentations and discussions were highly successful, as Lithuania has an experience in the implementation of the university councils and as VMU has joined the European University alliance and has experienced the inclusion of Lithuania University of Education in VMU system by creating Education Academy and strengthening the teacher training in Lithuania. Meetings were with the Rector of VMU and Vice-Rectors as well as with educational science specialists and linguists.

Rector Dace Markus says: "There are many ideas, for example, on organizing a joint conference of two universities in educational sciences, also organizing the publication of the results of the conference in the “Pedagogika” and “Sustainable multilingualism” (both in Scopus database), on the more active exchange of students, on doctoral traineeships, on the organisation of joint sociolyngvistics projects in Lithuania - border issues of Latvia, on Latvia’s experience of the bilingual education and its promotion in Lithuania. Liepaja University delegation also was introduced with the typology of the higher education institutions in Lithuania, which is different from the new Latvian system. In the summer Lithuanian colleagues are expected to visit Liepaja."
