Historic reason for a cooperation with Brazil

On Friday, February 5, the newly elected mayor of Ijui (Brazil), Liepājas University Rector Dace Markus, professors and administrative staff, Liepaja City municipality representative, Ijui and Kurzeme business incubators, Ijui University (LiepU already has concluded the partnership agreement), as well as the Head of the Latvian Culture Centre in Ijui had a historical remote meeting 14 000 km away.  The welcome speeches were given by Anda Čakše, Member of Saeima of the Republic of Latvia and Dace Melbarde, Member of the European Parliament.

There are several families living in Brazil whose roots are in Latvia – Liepaja. Liepaja University has many opportunities for cooperation in the implementation and acquisition of study programs, research projects, strengthening and developing tourism, business and cultural relations. The fundamentals are already placed: possible exchanges of students and staff in the Erasmus + program and Nora Vilmane monograph “Latvians in Brazil”. Thank Aigars Strauss for organising the event and Hans Berzins for the translation.

Obrigado!
