E-resources available at Liepaja University library

E-resources and international publishers available resoursces for final works’ development (bachelor's, master's, diploma and qualifications works)

In order to organize the development of the final works  (bachelor, master, diploma and qualification) remotely, students and teaching staff can use electronic resources created and subscribed by Liepaja University Library (with VPN client*), as well as free access Latvia's largest universities, Latvian National Library (LNB) and international publishers - free of charge - electronic resources:

  1. EBSCO platform (available with VPN client at https://e-biblioteka.liepu.lv/ ). EBSCO Academic Search Complete database is one of the most valuable resources for scientific information: it contains information from more than 12 500 full-text publications, including 7 300 science-reviewed journals. It offers an opportunity to view summaries from 12 500 journals and 13 200 books, reports and conference materials.  EBSCO database eBook Academic Collection contains approximately 780,000 e-books in a variety of science industries that can be read online, as well as printing or sending some of the book text to e-mail.
  2. Letonika.lv platform (available with VPN client in https://e-biblioteka.liepu.lv/ ). The platform contains a directory and translation system that offers to search for and work with information found in 11 encyclopedia and other resources, 13 dictionaries (translating, interpretative, terminology), as well as collections with 10,000 images, audio recordings and video materials. The platform also includes Latvian literature library with 200 full-text literary works and a language support store with materials for learning Latvian.
  3. Cambridge Journals Online (available with VPN client in https://e-biblioteka.liepu.lv/ ). The database contains valuable and useful academic information — more than 1.6 million journal articles in a variety of science fields.
  4. Publisher’s “Daily Business” publications “Marketing Manual” and “Company Manager Manual” (access with VPN client from https://www.liepu.lv/lv/1168/abonetasdatabase ). These publications will help focus on marketing to increase the company's sales and develop new products or services, as well as business and commercial law, by publishing expert comments and explanations, such as the legal and financial aspects of Commercial Law and related laws.
  5. Final works database created by LiepU Library, in which final works defended by LiepU students are available. The work search is conducted using the electronic catalogue of LiepU library (available in the https://alise.liepu.lv/Alise/lv/home.aspx : section catalogs, marking only “final wokrs” / “noslēguma darbi”). Most final works are published in full texts. You can view the full-text works by following the link in the catalog description and using your LAIS username and password.
  6. University of Latvia Library site (available here: https://www.biblioteka.lu.lv/resursi/e-Resources-Industry/ ) collects information not only about 35 full-text subscribed databases (access only to LU authorized users), but also about 122 open access databases (access to anyone) that have been verified. Resources are organized by science fields. Open access databases also include multiform material databases, e-repositories and digital archives. Open access databases are marked with a green key.
  7. Research publications of Latvian scientists can be searched in different sectors in repositories such as the LU e-resources repository (available here: https://dspace.lu.lv/dspace/ ), RTU publication repository (available here: https://ortus.rtu.lv/science/lv/publications/search ), RSU e-resources repository (available here: https://www.rsu.lv/dspace ), the “Academia” repository (available here: https://academia.lndb.lv/ ), as well as other publishing and data repositories in Europe. The OpenAIRE platform provides an opportunity to search simultaneously for most publications and data repositories in Europe: https://explore.openaire.eu/ .
  8. The National Library of Latvia (LNB) offers to remotely use digital resources from the collections of the National Digital Library (available here: https://lndb.lv/), the National Encyclopedia (https://enciklopedija.lv/ ) and other types of audio and video content available in LNB social networks. The following digital resources are offered to LNB registered users during the State Emergency situation: EBSO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Proquest Dissertation and Thesis Online, Bibliorossica, Cambridge Journals Online, Credo Reference, Emerald, Encyclopaedia Britannica Academic Edition, Dawsonera e-books (available here: https://ej.uz/LNB_datubazes ).
  9. International research open access (free) content search or browsing by specific science fields can be found on the Open Research Library platform (available here: https://openresearchlibrary.org/home ).
  10. In response to the global pandemic situation, some commercial publishers temporarily extend access to their electronic resources. Extended access is offered by:
    • CORE (COnnecking REpositories – the world's largest pool of scientific articles, available here: https://core.ac.uk/ ). Nearly 25 million full-text science articles have been accessed since March 2020.
    • The Cambridge University Press, available here: https://www.cambridge.org/core/what-we-publish/textbooks extends the availability of content to subscribers by offering access to more than 700 textbooks in HTML format.

*  access to resources subscribed to by LiepU Library is possible outside the LiepU network from a single interface in https://e-biblioteka.liepu.lv/ . You must set up a VPN client on your private computer for access (instruction in https://serviss.liepu.lv/vpn-client-setup-computer/ ).

* * Access to LNB online databases: 1) LNB readers (if not yet accessed) who have a reader card must complete the application (available here: https://ej.uz/LNB_iesniegums ) and has to sent to konsultants@lnb.lv in a scanned or photographed manner; 2) LNB readers are registrated remotely: https://lasitajs.lnb.lv (the reader card will be available after 14 April, but the ID will be received).
